History of MPCC

In 2009 Laurie Hindle, a resident of Somers, was playing veterans cricket in Melbourne and was
asked to organise a Peninsula Over 60’s team to play in the Melbourne competition. His hard work
and tenacity came to fruition and the Peninsula Veterans Club was established.
Our club has prospered since then and given countless veteran cricketers the opportunity to
continue playing and enjoying the game of cricket. The social side of the game is just as important
where everyone has benefited from the opportunity to reconnect with old friends and make new
friends along the way.

An Over 50’s Peninsula team was started in 2020 and has had considerable success, remaining
undefeated in their first two seasons and winning two premierships along the way. In 2022 with a
growing number of players interested in veterans cricket a second Over 50’s team was established.
In 2021 a separate Over 70 competition was started to cater for the growing number of veteran
cricketers in this age group. Our club joined with the Canterbury Veterans Cricket Club to enter a
combined team in this age group.

Currently our Peninsula veterans have three teams providing a game of cricket for players within an
age range of 50 to 80+.
